Actinopteria spp. |
|
This is a Late Silurian-Devonian genus which is best developed in the Devonian. The Alaskan materials identified here are fragmentary, but are similar to New York Devonian species of Actinopteria. A few of the specimens in the shipment are similar to A. taberi McAlester, 1962, but most of them are larger and have a coarser sculpture than that species. |

Comment: | The rock surfaces were examined under a low-power stero-microscope but no conodonts or ostracodes were found. Because the rock would not break down in acid or the usual dispersal agents for argillaceous rocks it was crushed and screened and the heavy minerals separated. No fossils were found in the heavy minerals. The crushed sample will be discarded April 1. |
