Comment: | Known occurrences of the mollusks suggest an age of early to middle Pleistocene (Anvilian to Kotzebuan transgressions). Astarte leffingwelli is known in Anvilian to Pelukian deposits, and Neptunea lyrata leffingwelli occurs in upper Beringian to Kotzebuan transgressions. Mya pseudoarenaria, tentatively identified here, is a living species known to range no farther back than Kotzebuan or perhaps Einahnutan. Rangifer sp. is first known during the Pleistocene in this region. All of the living mollusk species are known in northern Alaska today, and the extinct species have all been found previously in the Gubik Formation. |
