Report by: Jean M. Berdan
Referred by: Ray Wehr
Age: Early Devonian
Formation: Black Cap Limestone
Comment:The presence of Beyrichia (Beyrichia) suggests that this collection is not younger than Early Devonian, and as the other genera listed have been described from the Early Devonian of Siberia, an Early Devonian age seems most likely for this collection.

Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1966 (07/21)
Two collections received with covering memo dated July 1, 1966, included numerous corals. A third collection mentioned in the memo (66AWh2) was not received.

Age: Devonian (probably Devonian)
Comment:This collection could be Silurian but there are several reasons to believe it to be Devonian instead. 1) Thamnopora ranges through the Silurian and Devonian but this is a type that seems to be limited to the Devonian. 2) Oculipora is another Silurian-Devonian genus; the species in this collection is only questionably identified to genus but is very similar to a Russsian Devonian species. In addition the Oculipora? sp. of your collection is certainly the same species as a Oculipora? sp. that I recently identified for J.M. Hoare from his collection 65AHr44 (USGS 7691-SD). I identified Hoare's collection as "probably Devonian" although it too, could be Silurian. 3) Pseudamplexus is a Devonian genus but your specimens can only be questionably identified. There is a similar Silurian genus that is hard to sepratate unless preservation is nearly perfect.

I conclude that this collection is probably Devonian but Silurian cannot be ruled out.

Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1972 (03/03)
All three collections seem to represent the same assemblage. The occurrence of Warrenella suggests a Middle Devonian age and the other forms are compatible with this assignment although similar species range through much of the Silurian and Devonian.

Referred by: Ray Wehr
Age: Middle Devonian
Formation: Black Cap Limestone
Comment:This collection contains two species of true Atrypa, one in great abundance, and two single valves of a smooth gypiduloid that cannot be identified to genus because they are too fragmentary to show the essential morphologic characters.
Occurrence(s)

1 Brachiopods Atrypa sp. 1 abundant
2 Brachiopods Atrypa sp. 2
3 Brachiopods smooth gypiduloid 2
