Comment: | The above collections [67AR260, 67AR222, 67AR259] are of probable middle or late Oligocene age. Both Alnus evidens and "Carya" magnifica (this is actually referable to Juglans) are indicative of this age. The presence of Metasequoia morphologically identical on foliage to the extant species definitely prohibits a Paleocene or early Eocene age. The new species of Alnus is very similar to, but probably not conspecific with the Seldovian A. barnesi Wolfe. The Populus in 11125 is poorly preserved but appears conspecific with a Populus found in several other mid-late Oligocene floras in Alaska. |
