Comment: | There is one small high-spired gastropod, but it could be any one of half a dozen genera. I can also make out crinoid stems and obscure shell fragments. I am unable to even put an age as to period on this sample, from the available specimens. |

For convenience, the shipment of October 17 is covered in three reports following the grouping on your transmittal forms. Part I (here) covers those collections collectively labeled "Devonian(?)" and consisting mostly of possible Amphipora. Preservation is poor in all collections, specimens ranging from completely recrystallized to only mostly so. I do still consider Amphipora to be indicative of the Devonian. I am now satisfied that it occurs in the Early Devonian (Gedennian) of Australia but I know of no pre-Middle Devonian occurrence in North America. It is world-wide in Middle and lower Upper (Frasnian) Devonian rocks. |

Comment: | Bill Sando and I agree that these could be either Devonian or Mississippian from what we can observe. |
